Experience Real Yorkshire
Walking For Wellbeing & Mental Health
Walk Yorkshire operates a totally inclusive approach to both physical and mental health. Research concludes that the two combine to create a truly engaging experience.
At Walk Yorkshire we strongly believe that connecting with nature and absorbing the influence the great outdoors has to offers will help to heal both body and mind.
The North York Moors is a walker’s delight, a constantly changing scene, beautiful with dramatic views.
Taking that all important first step
Don’t allow the demons to win, taking that first step into the natural world can increase mood swings by up to seven hours, and once you commit to regular exercise it can be a more effective remedy than taking medication.
At Walk Yorkshire we aim to encourage individuals, families or groups to join us in the countryside, become enthused, but most of all improve your mental health whilst encapsulating the beauty of the Yorkshire landscape with like-minded people.
All Walk Yorkshire guides are qualified Mountain leaders and Mental Health First Aid trained.
Why walking is good for our mental wellbeing?
It is not just by coincidence that walking offers a whole range of benefits when it comes to your mental wellbeing.
Extensive research in this field concludes that a good walk improves self-esteem and self-perception. It can improve mood and sleep quality, and can minimise stress. Physically active people have up to a 30% reduced risk of becoming depressed, and staying active helps those who are depressed recover. In the UK depression and anxiety are the most frequently diagnosed mental health problems.
In the elderly, staying active can improve cognitive function, memory and reduce the risk of cognitive decline and dementia.

Safety and the Weather
As the group leader, I am responsible for your safety and will be more attentive to your needs throughout, and may show more caution than individuals might when walking on their own.
I undertake continuous risk assessment, and may take the decision to change or modify walking plans at short notice. This most commonly occurs in bad weather conditions. I do lead walks in all weather, so long as it is safe to do so.
