Full description
This self guided walking holiday is based in the perfect English market town of Helmsley. Situated at the beginning of the Cleveland Way and the Ebor Way, this North Yorkshire market town is steeped in history and has attractions to appeal to all, from a 900 year old castle ruins, 250 year old walled garden to charming tea rooms and inviting inns and much more.
This charming Yorkshire market town is the perfect setting to kick start your walking holiday. Helmsley is the gateway to the western side of the national park with its stunning dales and moorland walks. The past and the present merge as you leave the town to explore the moors. Key roads and tracks follow ridges between the valleys and are often marked by standing stones and crosses, many of great antiquity. Most walks in the area are easy to moderate and range from 6 to 11 miles, however they can be shortened for those with smaller children or you just don’t wish to walk that distance.
This holiday is normally available on a 3-4 night basis with a varied and diverse walking itinerary, it is available all year round and you can book to start on any day you wish. This is Yorkshire at its most raw and elemental, but this spectacular isolation is the perfect cure for the hectic lifestyle we lead today and the perfect place to rest after a good day of walks and walking. Prices are based on two people sharing en-suite accommodation, staying on a bed & breakfast basis. This walking holiday includes all transport to and from the trail for each days walking.
Highlights of the walk
- Helmsley Castle
- Helmsley Walled Garden
- Rievaulx Abbey
- The White Horse
- Traditional Yorkshire shops, café’s, tearooms and pubs.
