Full description
Skirting round the southern edge of the North York Moors National park the route is dissected by a series of dales that leave tabular, or table like uplands between them. This self guided walk starts at Scalby Mills just north of Scarborough and meanders inland to the market town of Helmsley, the route takes in the gentle forested or cultivated land with open stretches of moorland towards the latter sections of the walk. The walk passes through some of the most picturesque and unspoilt villages on the North York Moors, including Cropton, Hutton le Hole, Gillamoor and Fadmoor. The total distance for this walk is just under 50 miles. The walk came about with the idea of converting the Cleveland Way into a circular walk in 1974. For those who wish to have a go it then becomes a 160 mile circular walk usually starting and finishing in Helmsley.
Prices are based on two people sharing en-suite accommodation, staying on a bed & breakfast basis. This walking holiday includes all luggage transfers, accommodation & transport to and from the trail for each days walking.
Highlights of the walk
The Hole of Horcum
Evidence of the Roman army at Cawthorn Moor
New Inn, Cropton worth a visit to taste local ales from their very successful micro-brewery
With a mention in the Domesday Book Hutton le Hole is one of the most photographed villages in Yorkshire with attractions such as the Ryedale Folk Museum, and traditional tea shops
